A long history
The story of our Elixir begins at the end of 700, when Father Giuseppe Ronchi, retired to Puglia with the desire to discover in the Murgia a remedy that could soothe or heal the harassment and infirmity that daily life brings with it.
The story of Father Peppe begins at the end of the 18th century, when the Capuchin friar Father Giuseppe Ronchi, retired to Puglia with the desire to discover in the Murgia, in its woods, its meadows, its waters and its rocks, a remedy that could soothe or heal the harassment and infirmity that daily life brings in itself. Following the monastic tradition, he led his life trying to help everyone to rediscover the global balance of the organism: mind, soul and body. In Apulia he found a way to extract medicinal juices from herbs and fruits, extracts processed with dedication in the monastery’s workshop, where the friar could experience their therapeutic action for the relief of friars and faithful. With the passage of time, a serious problem began to bother the ‘apothecary’ friar (this is how the friars were called ‘pharmacists’ who worked and cured with spices): to preserve and keep the preparations intact until they were used. He tried to preserve many spices, herbs and fruits useful for his medicines and so it was that over time, he perfected an extract of care and well-being. Tradition has it that women’s hands pick the unripe nuts to be used for the magical liqueur... barefoot, dancing around the tree to ensure the vitality of the plant and those who will taste it... because everything happens during the shortest night of the year, when light wins over darkness. Even today, on the shortest night of the year, the green and immature nuts are still picked. They are processed and preserved for 4 years in old oak barrels, giving off the unmistakable taste for the most determined palates - always the same - for more than 200 years. Preserving the mahogany color and the scent of walnuts and wild undergrowth herbs. Over the years the Striccoli family has preserved with care and dedication the handbook drawn up by the friar, pages written by the friar that explain and codify all the preparations of the monastery’s workshop and among these all the phases of production of the precious elixir.
The historical symbols of our company: the shield, the eagle and the three coins.
The three coins, symbol of economic value, for us is the story of our company handed down from son to grandson and represented on the label because Father Peppe had three gold coins buried so that we could hand down the real seed, the most important seeds such as faith, hope and charity. The eagle with the threads around the initials of the family, creates a bond with nature. The eagle symbolizes heaven and light, indicates the supreme force capable of distinguishing good from evil, opens the way with beauty and harmony and invites to put one’s strength into play.
